Voltron Movie gets green light!

New Regency is looking to assemble its own giant robot movie.

The 20th Century Fox-based production entity is close to a deal with the Mark Gordon Co. to adapt "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" into a live-action film.

Gordon has been developing the pic, based on the popular 1980s Japanese animated TV series, comicbooks and toy line, with Justin Marks penning the script.

Should the deal close, project would be one of the company's more high-profile efforts since Robert Harper took over as chairman-CEO of Regency Filmed Entertainment earlier this year.

Interest in the property hit a high after "Transformers" turned into a box office juggernaut, raking in nearly $300 million to date.

New Regency, which hasn't had a major hit since "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in 2005, sparked to the idea of a potential franchise.

Company's upcoming pics include "Alvin and the Chipmunks," the Doug Liman-directed "Jumper," the Alexandre Aja-helmed "Mirrors" and the Eddie Murphy starrer "Starship Dave."
Marks' take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico. Five ragtag survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders.

Gordon will produce with Lawrence Inglee and Jordan Wynn, who are shepherding the project at the Gordon Co., which has Roland Emmerich's "10,000 B.C." bowing next from Warner Bros. Mark Costa and Ford Oelman are exec producers.

"Voltron" pic has been in the works for nearly three years, with Jim Young's Animus Films funding its development.

Marks has become a go-to guy in Hollywood for comicbook, videogame and toy-based adaptations.

He is adapting "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" for Joel Silver at Warner Bros., as well as the Green Arrow pic "Supermax," also at the studio. Marks also has "Street Fighter" in the works at Hyde Park and Fox.

Voltron Lion: Hunk Profile ( Yellow Lion Profile )

Hunk is the strong-man of the group, piloting the Yellow Lion that forms Voltron's left leg, and wearing an orange uniform in the original series, and a metallic yellow uniform in Voltron: The Third Dimension. He is about 24-26 years old. He may look tough and mean, but he has a soft heart, especially when it comes to children. He is never late for a meal. Though his friends tease him about his appetite, most of Hunk's bulk is muscle. It is revealed that he eats "-'Fruit Loops' (almost)every morning".

The larger of the group, Hunk was always ready to go charging in with his fists. He also had a kinder side - more like a big teddy bear.

Voltron Classic Opening

Can you guess the voice?? Check out the Voltron opening scene from back in the day.

Voltron Lion: Sven Profile (Blue Lion temporary pilot)

Sven did not stay long with the team, as he was injured in a battle with the evil witch Haggar early in the series. In the original Japanese version, Sven died at this point, but in the American version he was only injured and taken to another planet which had better hospitals than those on Planet Arus [Planet Altea]. As it turned out, Zarkon's forces attacked the planet where Sven was recovering, and Sven was taken captive along with other citizens of the world. Sven and some of the others were then sent to Planet Doom [Planet Galra], where they were used as slaves. Sven, useless as a slave because he was still weak, was thrown in to a cave by himself and left for dead. Then one day Princess Romelle was thrown down a hole by Prince Lotor, where she met Sven who helped her to escape. He didn't want to go back to Planet Arus because he felt that he had failed the Voltron Force. Princess Romelle told him to call them, but he refused. She kept on telling him, so that he eventually calls them through a comlink, and when he does calls Planet Arus everybody is glad to see that he is OK. So the Voltron Force goes out to save them, and Sven and the Princess escape by taking one of Zarkon's ships. They get out of Planet Doom while Voltron is on his way. When they finally catch up to Voltron, Lotor brings out a RoBeast which almost defeated Voltron, if it wasn't for Sven and the Princess. So, after the battle they return to Princess Romelle's planet and Sven tells Keith that he is going to stay with the Princess.... and Keith told him....."Remember you will always be with the Voltron Force...and when you want to come back you will be welcomed...." And that's what happened to Sven.
